Life with Multiple Chronic Conditions

It’s estimated that one in four U.S. adults live with multiple chronic conditions (MCC), with half of all older adults living with three or more conditions. While this might sound unsettling, the good news is, many people living with MCCs manage their conditions well with the help of expert medical teams, support from family, and MedicAlert. Eveyln happens to be one of these fortunate people. This is her story.

So, Just Who is Evelyn?

Evelyn’s medical journey is anything but ordinary. A true warrior, Evelyn has faced more than her fair share of medical scares. Her life with multiple chronic conditions is unique. For most of her life, she has been living with a unique combination of seizure disorders, heart disease, and confounding medication allergies. Yet, through it all, she found safety and consistency in MedicAlert.

You see, Evelyn has also been a cherished member of the MedicAlert family since 1978. That’s just over four-and-a-half decades of support and triumph over a myriad of health challenges.

“Thanks to MedicAlert,” Evelyn says, “I survived them all—even when I had a seizure while driving.”

Evelyn has been living with MCCs for many decades, so she knows how to handle most obstacles that come her way. One day Eveyln was out running errands. For her, it was just another normal day, which is why what happened next took her by surprise.

Evelyn found herself behind the wheel when a seizure struck. Although she was startled, decades of experience living with seizures led to some quick thinking. She immediately pulled over to the side of the road—just before collapsing in her seat.

In that critical moment, the full extent of MedicAlert’s impact on her life came to light.

Unconscious and unbeknownst to Evelyn, a police officer happened upon the scene. One of the first things he noticed was her MedicAlert ID.

Without hesitation, the officer contacted MedicAlert’s 24/7 emergency hotline and was able to identify who Evelyn was, and obtain her full medical history. This crucial moment saved her life.

"Thanks to MedicAlert,” Evelyn says, “I survived it all—even when I had a seizure while driving.”

Life with multiple chronic conditions and MedicAlert

For 45+ years, MedicAlert has been more than just a medical identification service for Evelyn. Her MedicAlert ID has been a lifeline. In 1978, when Evelyn became a member, she didn’t realize the role MedicAlert would play in navigating the complexities of her health conditions.

Over the years, the 24/7 emergency response services provided by MedicAlert played a vital role in Evelyn’s life, ensuring that she was always protected and never alone.

Evelyn’s words resonate as a powerful reminder that MedicAlert is not just an organization. It’s a lifeline, a support system, and a beacon of hope for those navigating the complexities of their health challenges.
