Make a Pact to A.C.T. for Asthma and Allergies

MedicAlert Foundation and Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), and Kids With Food Allergies (KFA) have teamed up to raise awareness of asthma and anaphylaxis.

Our first commitment is to make a Pact to A.C.T - a proactive approach to help you manage your asthma or allergies.

How do you Make a Pact to A.C.T.?  Just follow these three easy steps:

A is for Action Plan:

  • Download an action plan here you can take this to your doctor and fill it out together.
  • Develop an asthma or anaphylaxis plan with your doctor. The action plan will help you understand and identify severe symptoms, know the causes and triggers of your asthma and/or allergies.
  • You’ll learn what is and isn’t a risk for your condition, and outline the medicine to take right away, as well as understand when to fill your prescriptions.

C is for Carry:

  • Always carry your emergency medicines along with a copy of your action plan. Be sure to take both (emergency medicine and action plan) with you, everywhere you go. Don’t leave them in a car or separate building.
  • Wear a MedicAlert ID. A custom engraved medical id will alert others of your condition should an emergency rise.
  • With a MedicAlert ID, first responders can connect to MedicAlert’s 24/7 emergency response team to access your complete health profile. This helps ensure you receive proper medical attention and a positive emergency outcome.

T is for Treatment:

  • A treatment plan outlines when to take your medicines and what to do in an emergency.
  • Develop your treatment plan with doctor, and discuss the best therapies and treatments for you.
  • Be sure to always use your prescribed medicines.
  • Always practice how to use your emergency medicines.

It’s hard to predict when you might be accidently exposed to an allergen or experience an asthma attack. By making a pact to A.C.T. you’ll make a commitment to understand your condition, recognize your symptoms and triggers, and always carry emergency medicine which will help prevent life-threatening emergencies.
