70 Years of Saving Lives
Spring is here – a time when many people return to the outdoors: walking, gardening, spending time with family. But for others, these same moments can trigger life-threatening asthma attacks or severe allergies.
And when that happens, every second matters.
For 70 years, MedicAlert Foundation has been there – helping ensure that critical medical information is available when it’s needed most.
That protection continues today because of people like you.
May is National Allergy & Asthma Awareness Month!
- 1 in 13 Americans live with asthma
- Every 10 seconds, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the ER
- Millions face life-threatening emergencies every year.
For individuals living with asthma or allergies, access to medical information in an emergency can make all the difference.
Your support helps power our 24/7 emergency response service – ensuring first responders have the information they need to act quickly and appropriately.
If you’d like to help extend this protection to someone in need, please consider making a gift today.
A Member Story:
Diane's Close Call
Living with severe asthma has always limited Diane’s ability to enjoy the outdoors. That’s why she always wears her MedicAlert bracelet.
This spring, while attending her nephew’s track meet, Diane stepped away for shade. Suddenly, she felt her chest tighten and began having difficulty breathing. When she reached for her inhaler, she realized she didn’t have it.
Panic set in.
When paramedics arrived, they immediately saw her MedicAlert bracelet. It told them about her asthma, her allergies, and her medications.
They contacted MedicAlert, who relayed her full medical history in real time.
What could have been a tragedy was instead a life saved.
“I am forever grateful to MedicAlert.
Thank you, MedicAlert, for being there when I needed you most.”
Diane, MedicAlert member since 2002

Legacy Donor Spotlight
Dr. Bill P.
Bill P. lived a life guided by curiosity, resilience, and a purpose — qualities that made him a cherished member of the MedicAlert family and an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
Born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, Bill went on to earn his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1960, where he studied under the guidance of the renowned Dr. H.R. Snyder. It was during those years in the lab, he often recalled with a laugh, that he made one of the most important discoveries of his career: that he was not cut out to be a research chemist. With Dr. Snyder’s encouragement, Bill set his sights on law school instead — and never looked back.
He went on to build a distinguished career as a patent attorney — an “intellectual property attorney,” as he preferred to say — retiring after many years as Intellectual Property Counsel for Chemical & Materials Technology at GE Global Research in Schenectady, New York. It was the very career path he had envisioned the day he walked out of the lab.
Living with Type 1 diabetes from the age of three, Bill understood the importance of planning for the unexpected. His connection to MedicAlert reflected his belief in protecting others and preparing for life’s uncertainties.
