Marfan Syndrome: Spreading Awareness

Sharing our member's stories serves to inspire us and educate others. We are continually impressed and humbled by our members and we're grateful that they entrust us with their medical information so that we may continue to fulfill our mission and do the work we set out to do: protecting and saving lives by communicating crucial health information when it matters most. While our members are unique in their own right, with varied medical conditions and concerns, we consider each one to be part of a collective family. At MedicAlert, we provide the ties that bind, connect and protect.

Nancy: Putting “Life” in MedicAlert Lifetime Membership

My name is Nancy, and I am a proud and happy MedicAlert Lifetime Member! In my 75 years, MedicAlert has seen me through some really critical moments brought on by allergic reactions to medicine. This is my story:

Vanessa’s Story – Living with Adrenal Insufficiency

Vanessa is part of our MedicAlert family and her story - challenging and inspiring - illustrates just how integral her MedicAlert ID and membership are to enabling her to live her life fully, despite the serious health issue she lives with – Adrenal Insufficiency. The peace of mind afforded to Vanessa - and to all our members living with their own unique heath issues - is priceless. We love to hear from our members.

Brave in the Face of Adversity

According to the Epilepsy Foundation, 3.4 million people in the United States live with epilepsy. 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime. And 1 in 3 people with epilepsy live with uncontrollable seizures because there is no available treatment that works for them.

With so many people impacted by this condition, what exactly is epilepsy?

Living Courageously with Congenital Heart Disease

Meet Jessica - a MedicAlert member for 15 years, living courageously with congenital heart disease (CHD). On a daily basis, Jessica manages multiple heart defects such as Tetralogy of Fallout (ToF), which is a cardiac anomaly that’s a combination of four related heart defects: ventricular septal defect (VSD), overriding aorta, pulmonary stenosis, and right ventricular hypertrophy. Along with ToF, Jessica also lives with mitral valve prolapse, double outlet right ventricle, and atrial septal defect (ASD).

My MedicAlert and Me

By Sarah Ackerman

When I was three years old, I got my first real piece of jewelry. It was silver and gold and customized for me. There was nobody else in the world who could wear this bracelet, and I felt special.

My MedicAlert bracelet has remained on my wrist for the past twenty-one years. It has seen me through every dance performance, breakup, sleepover, and most importantly, allergic reaction. While the styles, allergies, and chain length have changed over the years, one thing remains clear: this bracelet is my lifeline.
