MedicAlert names Phil Nathan – a Leader of the International Association of Lions Clubs and Chair of MedicAlert UK & Ireland Affiliate – to the Foundation’s International Board of Directors

Turlock, California (February 2, 2012) – MedicAlert Foundation International, a worldwide leader in emergency medical information and identification services, has appointed Philip Nathan to the Board of Directors during its annual meeting late last month. Mr. Nathan, a leading stockbroker in the United Kingdom, is widely known for his commitment to community service and philanthropic causes mostly through his tireless work as a lifelong member of the International Association of Lions Clubs International. Mr. Nathan also serves as Chair of Trustees of the MedicAlert Foundation International affiliate in the UK and Ireland.

Mr. Nathan is currently the Head Dealer and Executive Board Director of the United Kingdom firm of Charles Stanley & Company Limited. For more than 35 years, he has worked as stockbroker and financial manager and his career is highlighted with numerous professional achievements. At the same time, he has devoted a lifetime to helping others, with much of that effort spent as a member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. Not only has Mr. Nathan served as chair on various boards and committees, he has actively raised funds and awareness of the Lions’ A Gift for Living Trust, Hearing Trust and Eye Health Program. His leadership and commitment to healthcare initiatives earned him the appointment of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and numerous recognitions by Lions Clubs International; most notably, the honor of Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest recognition bestowed by the Lions Clubs to a member.

Last year, Mr. Nathan was presented with the Lion Recognition Award by International Lions Clubs President Sid L. Scruggs for his outstanding humanitarian work in the former Yugoslavia. In 1997, Mr. Nathan personally led a fundraising campaign to build pediatric hospitals and provide medical training to ensure quality health care for children in Bosnia Herzegovina. Mr. Nathan is the first Lion in the European Constitutional Area to receive this award. After learning about the significant contributions of MedicAlert Foundation, he was instrumental in fostering a successful partnership between the Lions Clubs of Canada and MedicAlert Foundation, Canada. Mr. Nathan also sits on the Board of Special Olympics GB and is Chair of Music and the Deaf.
