Tips for Merging Your MedicAlert Medical IDs and Services with NEW Apple® iOS 8 "Digital Medical ID"

Instructions for where to best link existing medical ID jewelry and services with Apple's digital medical ID as released with the new iOS 8 mobile operating system

With the recent release of the "Digital Medical ID" feature found within Apple's new iOS 8 mobile operating system, MedicAlert Foundation has some tips on how to best merge the information from your MedicAlert medical IDs with Apple's new feature.

MedicAlert Foundation pioneered the medical identification and information services industry and encourages customers to link their physical medical identification jewelry with the new Digital Medical ID feature to further make their information known and accessible to first responders in the event of an emergency.

Where to Store Your MedicAlert Information within the Digital Medical ID

We encourage our customers who want to use Apple's new Digital Medical ID feature to include their MedicAlert information, including their unique identification number, in the "medical note" field. We also suggest that the medical note states "contact MedicAlert immediately for vital health information" and denotes our live 24/7 emergency response number which is engraved on all MedicAlert medical IDs.

Configuring Your Digital Medical ID and Security of Your Health Information

iPhone® users can configure their Digital Medical ID by launching the Health application, tapping the "Medical ID" menu on the bottom right, and selecting "Create Medical ID". iPhone users have the ability to enable the Medical ID to be accessible, even when the phone is locked. However, for MedicAlert customers who have their full health and personal information securely stored with the Foundation, the "contact MedicAlert" call-to-action is the most secure method for communicating any and all personal information.
