The MedicAlert + Safe Return® program is designed to provide wandering assistance (along with emergency medical information and personal identification services) to people with Alzheimer's or related dementia.
6 out of 10 people with Alzheimer’s will wander. Should someone you care for go missing, MedicAlert Foundation will work with you, your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter, and local law enforcement to provide wandering assistance aiding in the safe return of your loved one.
Emergency responders and medical professionals are trained to recognize MedicAlert medical IDs, and will use them in emergency situations to provide appropriate treatment and care.
Responders that recognize a person’s Alzheimer’s medical ID have been educated to call our 24/7 Emergency Response service to obtain an EMIR® (Emergency Medical Information Record). Once we have provided information from the person's eletronic health record, we’ll notify that person’s emergency contacts and inform them of the location and treatment status of their loved one.
