    According to the Autism Society, 92 percent of parents report that their Autistic children wander. When a child with Autism wanders, every moment matters. They face dangers that include prolonged exposure, injury and drowning.

    When a child is reported missing, MedicAlert is there to respond. Below are the recommended steps to take if your loved one is missing:

    • Search where your child was last seen. If you can’t find them within five minutes, call the police.
    • Tell the police your child is autistic and at risk, that he/she is enrolled in MedicAlert, and be prepared to answer questions about your child.
    • Next, call MedicAlert at our live 24/7 emergency response service to notify us that your loved one has gone missing.
    • Once your child is found, the good Samaritan or police officer that found them contacts our live 24/7 emergency response service this is the same toll-free number listed on the child’s MedicAlert ID.
    • MedicAlert then notifies you of your child's recovery and ensures that they are returned home safe and sound.
