APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH: HELP US SUPPORT AUTISM FAMILIES
1 in 68 U.S. children have autism and nearly half of those will run away and potentially become lost at least once before their 17th birthday. In honor of Autism Awareness Month in April, we are seeking your support to protect children with autism who are at great risk for wandering and becoming lost.
Why Children with Autism?
According to Autism Speaks, autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S. and costs families an average of $60,000 per year, which can be a tremendous financial burden. Additionally, the fear and anxiety that family members experience due to the possibility of a wandering incident can be life-altering. Wandering was ranked among the most stressful behaviors by 58% of parents. 62% of families of children who elope were prevented from attending/enjoying activities outside the home due to fear of wandering, and 40% percent of parents had suffered sleep disruption due to fear of elopement.
How Will Your Donation Help Autism Families?
Your charitable gift will allow MedicAlert to provide direct support to autism families through 24/7 emergency services, medical IDs, and other important programs. We want to ensure that all children living with autism have 24/7 protection in the form of a MedicAlert ID and our Emergency Response services. This will also provide family members with a renewed peace-of-mind and added sense of security, should their loved one have a wandering incident.
