MedicAlert Foundation requires that all personal and medical information be provided only by our members or their designated representative. MedicAlert has always provided its members with full disclosure and informed consent regarding the use of their medical and personal information in an emergency. MedicAlert obtains prior approval at the time of enrollment for all storage and transfer, electronic or otherwise, of members’ information to emergency responders. In any other circumstances, the release of personal information by the MedicAlert Foundation containing personally identifiable information requires an authorization from the member.
MedicAlert Foundation follows the best business practices available to protect member information stored on its systems. All electronic data is securely encrypted and backed up to industry safe locations (earthquake proof, fireproof, flood proof). Security is reviewed by a third party, and staff receives training on the latest security technology available.
Our members and the emergency personnel who serve them can be assured that personal and medical information remains secure, confidential, and used solely for its authorized and intended purpose.
Registration, Ordering and Updating Information
MedicAlert Foundation’s registration process requires potential members to provide comprehensive medical information, as well as personal and financial information (name, address and credit card number etc.). In the event of an emergency, your membership in MedicAlert Foundation authorizes us to release all medical and other confidential information provided about you to the appropriate emergency responders and other designated health care personnel to assist you in a medical or other emergency. Your financial information is only used for MedicAlert billing purposes and will never be shared with any other person or organization for other purposes.
MedicAlert Foundation uses information obtained during registration to ship orders, send information about MedicAlert Foundation services or those of its marketing associates, and to update the member’s record. Members may review, update and modify their personal medical information through the secure website (http://www.medicalert.org/), by fax, by mail, or by calling the MedicAlert Call Center at 1-800-432-5378 during business hours. Only changes or updates made directly through our call center staff, or via our secure website, will be reflected immediately in the member’s record. Changes received by fax or mail will be processed when received.
In setting up a membership for a child, the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) will provide medical information they want shared with emergency responders, health care personnel and others designated by them. This may include providing emergency contact information for persons to be notified if the child is alone in an emergency.
It is the responsibility of the member, or the member’s designated representative, to update and maintain the accuracy of all information provided to MedicAlert Foundation.
Notification of Changes
MedicAlert Foundation reserves the right to modify or enhance this Privacy Statement at any time. In the event of a change, MedicAlert will post the updates on its website. Please review our Privacy Statement periodically to learn about any modifications or enhancements.
