MedicAlert Foundation Honors American Medical Response Employee With Extraordinary Meritorious Service (EMS) Award
TURLOCK, California (March 11, 2011) - MedicAlert Foundation honored American Medical Response’s Greg Sprang with the MedicAlert® Extraordinary Meritorious Service Award at a ceremony last week. Mr. Sprang was responsible for caring for a MedicAlert member in the moments following an incident which left the member unable to speak. Mr. Sprang’s recognition and response to the member’s MedicAlert ID enabled him to instantly access the member’s full medical history to provide faster and safer treatment.
The MedicAlert Foundation Extraordinary Meritorious Service Award honors first responders who recognized the MedicAlert medical ID and contacted the MedicAlert 24/7 Live Emergency Response Service Center to access vital medical and identification information in an effort to help and care for members of MedicAlert Foundation.
MedicAlert Foundation Board Member Tom Levin presented the award and read a statement from MedicAlert’s member who received treatment from Mr. Sprang. “I will forever be indebted to Mr. Sprang for taking the time to call MedicAlert and get the information he needed to treat me” wrote the member. “Having someone like Mr. Sprang, who knew what to do with my MedicAlert bracelet information, made a big difference.”

MedicAlert Foundation pioneered the first emergency medical information and identification service in 1956 to provide people with a simple but effective method for communicating their medical conditions. Since the organization’s founding, the Foundation has provided services and products that help to protect and save lives for its 4 million members worldwide. For more than 50 years, the nonprofit has relayed vital medical information on behalf of its members to emergency responders so they receive faster and safer treatment. MedicAlert IDs alert emergency personnel to a member’s primary health conditions. In addition to its 24-hour emergency response service, MedicAlert Foundation also provides family and caregiver notification so that members can be reunited with their families.
