Turlock, California (June 1, 2012) – Focused on improving patient care and safety, MedicAlert Foundation and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) have partnered to deliver a new notification service that will inform Nurse Practitioners (NPs) of their patient’s medical emergency. NP notification of their patient’s medical emergencies enables greater continuity and coordination of care between the patients and providers resulting in improved quality of care.
“In addition to being expert clinicians who diagnose and treat both acute and chronic conditions, communicating with our patients during a medical emergency is critical to ensure quality care delivery ,improved outcomes ultimately lead to reduced health care costs ” said Penny Kaye Jensen, President of AANP. "AANP represents the interest of over 155,000 NPs and has been providing much-needed resources to patients by emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, guiding patients to make smarter health and lifestyle choices. We are very excited to further the efforts of our mission through this valuable new program with MedicAlert."
“We are delighted by our new relationship with AANP,” said Andrew B. Wigglesworth, President and Chief Executive Officer of MedicAlert Foundation. “MedicAlert was founded by a clinician to protect people in times of medical emergencies and we believe this relationship goes right to the heart of our mission and history. We are privileged to have the opportunity to work in alliance with AANP to better serve nurse practitioners and their patients.”
In promotion of the partnership, MedicAlert is offering a discount to AANP members and their patients. Patients who join MedicAlert as a result of the AANP partnership, will be automatically enrolled in the NP notification service. In addition to the notification service, MedicAlert offers an additional suite of services including: live 24/7 emergency response and family notification service; a personal health record which documents medical conditions, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts; the storage and management of Advance Directives, and an emergency wallet card that further complements personalized MedicAlert medical IDs with additional information.
