It is estimated that by the end of today, 268 people will have died as a direct result of misread medical prescriptions and misdiagnosed conditions. Medical errors are the eighth leading cause of death in the nation. Many people receive delayed medical treatment in an emergency because key information and identification are not instantly attainable.
For these reasons, MedicAlert has devised a means of quickly identifying an individual's identification and medical conditions to ensure medical errors and adverse drug events are reduced.
MedicAlert provides public safety officials, health care professionals and law enforcement personnel with a member's Electronic Health Record (EHR) that contains their identification, emergency contacts and medical information. With a simple call to the nonprofit organization's 24-hour Emergency Response Center, MedicAlert is able to relay a variety of information from the member's EHR, including current medical conditions, emergency contacts, medication dosages, EKG documents, implanted devices, immunization records, advance directives and organ donation specifications.
