New MedicAlert® Chairman Makes Life-Saving Service Priority for International Organization

TURLOCK, California (January 29, 2001) -- MedicAlert Foundation, the nation's leading emergency medical information service, elected H. C. "Buddy" Henry, Atlanta resident and former Executive Vice President of BellSouth Corporation, Chairman of the Board for 2001-2002.

As Chairman of one of the largest international nonprofit membership organizations, Mr. Henry states, "My goal will be to continue the outstanding service our 2.7 million members have come to expect from MedicAlert, while, at the same time, significantly growing our membership. I also want to continue the efforts already well under way to standardize our international presence and protect the MedicAlert® brand identity."

Mr. Henry has been on the MedicAlert Board of Directors since 1997. He is retired from a long and distinguished career with Bell South Corporation, where he served most recently as Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations.

Mr. Henry also served as Southern Division Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee and Chairman of the 1996 Campaign of the United Way of Metro Atlanta, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Advertising Council. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc., and the Institute for Educational Leadership, Inc.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, Mr. Henry earned an M.B.A. degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1976.

Mr. Henry began his career with Southern Bell as an engineer in Columbia , South Carolina , in 1965. He subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility with that company in Atlanta , Ft. Lauderdale , Miami and Jacksonville .

In July 1984, Mr. Henry was elected Vice President for Southern Bell in South Carolina where he remained until April 1986, when he was elected Vice President-Florida with responsibility for 20,000 employees and over three million telephone customers.

In 1990, he served as Executive Vice President-International and Business Development, responsible for corporate strategy and development, information services and international operations. In April 1993, he was named Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations for BellSouth Corporation.
