Diabetes - di·a·be·tes ('dI-&-'bEt-Ez) Norman Katzoff, 73, from Phoenix, AZ was already getting ready to go to the emergency room to treat his bronchitis and very high blood sugar, when suddenly he collapsed in his house. The ambulance, which was already dispatched to treat his bronchitis and high blood sugar, took him to Scottsdale Shea Campus Hospital. It was during the ambulance ride that Norman suffered a heart attack and later became unconscious.
A lady friend attending to Norman’s side, showed the attending hospital staff Norman’s MedicAlert bracelet and a hospital staff member called MedicAlert to go over his list of medications. Norman stayed at the hospital for 15 days.
“My bracelet spoke for me when I couldn’t,” Katzoff said. “I never take it off.”
Norman is a retired quality control manager from the electronics industry, and used to work on the “Minuteman Rockets.” In his spare time, Norman likes to work out and walk around the neighborhood for his exercise. Last summer he joined a senior fitness class offered by a local community college – “The Silver Slippers” club. At the club, Norman works out at the gym three days a week and walks a mile each visit on the treadmills.
